An Israeli Morrocan singing Umm Kulthum.. who would’ve known. I don’t have really any comments on Dr. Amy’s article but to agree that music in this case has been re-localized to suit her particular culture. It was also interesting to learn how music from Israeli Arabs wasn’t generally accepted for some time and how it started out on low budget tape recording. Another parallel I drew from this re-localization was from the Channels of Rage movie, were to both Jews and Arabs hip-hop evolved to suit the context and message of the culture.
